in this blog post I will be telling you about my experience as a dual enrollment student. Dual enrollment is when you are in 12th grade at a high school and you have the chance to take a collage class at a college to be able to get a head start on furthering your education. I currently go to Ridley High School, I take three classes there in the after noon 10:00 am to 2:34 pm. My three classes are painting, clay, and financial fitness. These classes are really fun and somewhat easy to understand ans take. I finished all my mandatory classes in 10th grade because I wanted to have a simple easy last year in high school. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I go to Delaware county community college to take an English class instead of taking my last English at my high school. I had to sign up for the class when I was in 11th grade. I'm happy that I took this class at the college instead of my school because I was planning on going to dccc for two years after high school before transferring to different college. This English class has been one of the best English classes I have ever taken. In high school they make you read mandatory boring books and do long tests and projects on them and in the end it didn't help your writing. In my college class we didn't have to read any long boring books, we actually got to work on papers that were interesting and held the classes attention span. I much preferred doing dual enrollment than taking any other English classes my high school had to offer. In the spring semester I am also going to be taking the second part of the English class at the college, this will hopefully put me ahead of the game so I could get all the mandatory classes out of the way so i could transfer to West Chester University faster.

In this blog post I will be talking about my grandmother. My grandmothers name
is Ann Marie, she is one of the sweetest and understanding people out there. Ever since I was little she has been one of my best friends, ever chance I get I go over to her house an watch out favorite tv shows, Steve Harvey. My mommom was the person who taught me how to cook and how to call in to a job after I applied to I would have a greater chance of getting the job. Whenever I have something to rant about or anything I just want to get off my chest she is there ready to listen to me and give me support or advice. She's the one that helps me with my school work and makes sure i'm on all my deadlines. I wanted to write this blog just to explain how much she means to me and that she makes me a better person. In this blog post i'm going to be talking about my first ever job and ranting. I
currently work at pet-smart, I work in the grooming salon as a bather so I bath the dogs and cut their nails and everything else except cutting the dogs hair. this is the first job i've ever had, i'm not use to working and they started me out with 20 hours a week, which i think is way too much because everyone else my age that works there only has five to ten hours a week. with all these hour I have no time to do anything else because I leave school and go straight to work so i have no time to see my friends or work on any school work, so now i am behind in all my classes and I keep asking them to cut my hour but they ended up giving me an extra hour, I don't know why they thought that was a good idea. Then in November I was sick three different times with the stomach bug and called out sick because I didn't want to go in while throwing up and when I called the manager said it was fine and told me that all he wanted was for me to get better, Then this morning a whole month later he calls me, waking me up to just yell at me because he said I took too many sick days and he accused me of not wanting my job. Even though I came in on my days off to make up the hours I lost. I don't even get that many days off so coming in on those days was very annoying to me because I never get a break. That's all I have to rant about. In this week's blog I will be answering some questions that go over the writing process of my research paper, you can find my research paper by clicking this link -https://gabrielladambrosio.weebly.com/research-paper.html
Where to Invade Next. Dir. Michael Moore. Narr. Michael Moore. Do Eat Dog Films, 2016. Online.
This source is the main one I will be pulling from, this is a documentary that talks about how different countries do things differently from America. The information in this documentary goes over the way Norway runs their prison system from the way America does. This is relevant to my research paper because it shows the way the prison systems in Norway is run. Dreisinger, Baz. “Norway Proves That Treating Prison Inmates As Human Beings Actually Works”. Huffpost, 03 Aug. 2016. Web. 30 Oct. 2017 This article basically goes over what the Norway prison does and how they treat their prisoners. The information in the text gives real interviews with some of the prisoners in Norway. This source is relevant to my research paper because it gives information with real interviews with prisoners telling their side of how they are treated. Wagner, Peter., and Rabury, Bernadette. “ Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie 2016”. Prisonpolicy, 14 Mar. 2016. Web. This article gives lots of facts on what people are arrested for and what happens inside of prisons in the USA. The information in this article is very fact based and has a lot of charts with useful information in them. This source is relevant to my research paper because it gives facts about the American prison system so I can compare the way Norway and America runs their prisons. 4th source is my dad who used to work in an American prison Weber, Edward. "Incarceration." Torch, Fall2015, pp. 25-28. This paper is about a man who used to work within the prison system going over what he remembers during his time working. Coyle, Andrew. "The Treatment of Prisoners: International Standards and Case Law." Legal & Criminological Psychology, vol. 13, no. 2, Sept. 2008, pp. 219-230. This article goes over the basics of the treatment and workings of the prison system and prisoners. This weeks blog will be about the documentary I watched called Where to Invade Next, my blog last week talks about the main idea and summary of the documentary, read that first by clicking the link -https://gabrielladambrosio.weebly.com/blog/summary-of-where-to-invade-next
This blog will be me talking about three topics that were covered in the film. I will be coming up with a research question and also giving an argument for it.
Welcome to this week's blog. I will be talking about and giving a brief summary of the documentary Where to Invade Next . In the documentary Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore visits countrys around the world to see how they differ from the USA and how he could “ steal “ their ideas to make America better. This documentary was trying to be more persuasive than informational. The countries he traveled to were Italy, France, Finland, Slovenia, Germany, Portugal, Norway, Tunisa, and Iceland. The first place he visited was Italy, Where they have up to 8 weeks paid vacation. The owners of companies said they give their workers these long breaks because it makes them less stressed and keeps them from getting sick. In America Most people barely get 2 weeks off of work. In Italy they also are in the top 15 most productive countries even though they have this much time off work. The next stop was France where they serve actual courses for lunch in school. They have full course meals with fresh foods that are healthy. The schools have their own chefs that prepare and make the food, and people come out and serve the food to the children. Their lunches also cost less to make then the one sin America. The next country was Finland, there they have the most highly educated kids. The kids don’t even go to school for 8 hours a day. They also have little to no homework. They principles think that letting a kid have time to be child let them grow and learn things on their own but also learn while in school. In Slovenia they have free universities, no tuition so no one who goes there will be in debt. Germany has a big middle class, the workers work 36 hours but get paid for 40. Everybody only has one job to be able to live. Companies can not contact a worker once they left work. The companies think keeping their workers out of stressful environments it will keep them healthier and want to work for them. Next in Portugal they don’t arrest people for having drugs on them anymore. This has actually decreased the use of drugs in the country. In Norway they have a very laid back prison system they treat the prisoners with respect and let them have their own responsibilities to make them feel normal and help them once they get back into the real world. Also the highest sentencing you could have is 21 years. The next stop was Tunisia where they have government funded abortion, this has helped women become equal to men and giving them an equal opportunity in life. The last country was Iceland where they had a women president and women are highly respected there.

In this week’s blog I will be talking about the short story “The Lottery “ by Shirley Jackson. This story is about a village of people that continues to follow an outdated tradition of “ the lottery “ they use this lottery to choose the person they will stone to death. The elders are all for this old tradition; while the younger people in the village are starting not to like this ceremony. They however continue the ceremony for this time. I do believe there is some American traditions that share similarities lottery tradition. One of them could be massacres. The USA has a history of having mass shootings. They don't happen as frequently as the lottery in the village but there is a handful of them that have happened over the years. There has been more than a handful of deadly mass shooting. The shootings even date back to 1984. The most recent tradition of massacres in the USA just happened on October first 2017. This shooting that took place in Las Vegas was the deadliest mass shooting the US has ever had. 59 people dead and more than 500 injured. I’m only 18 and lived through so many mass shooting tragedies. One was even the day right after my birth. On September 15, 1999, seven people killed and seven injured, gunman Larry Gene Ashbrook opened fire inside a chapel of the Wedgwood Baptist Church. The people inside didn't realize what was happening at first and kept signing their hymns, only after they realized they were under fire they began to dive for the ground. After the gunfire stopped Larry turned the gun on himself. These massacres have prompted american citizens to start fighting over what the government should do about gun laws. Like in the story, the older people don't feel like there should be a change , while the younger people in the village think the tradition ( gun laws ) is outdated and should be stopped. A link to the website about mass shootings - http://timelines.latimes.com/deadliest-shooting-rampages/ A tradition That I decided to break away from was going to church. My whole family is Catholic, so I was raised catholic and was forced to do ccd. I always hated going to ccd and going to church because I was always bored and never understood what the people were talking about. When I got to an age where I could decide if I wanted to go I always opted out. My family was okay with me not going because after awhile they slowly stopped going too. The only person it upset was my nana because she is very religious and goes to church every chance she gets. I never really understood anything that was ever happening in church so I didn't think it was important for me to be there. I still believe in God and a higher being but I don't find it necessary to go to church. I know some people are super religious and if you don't do what they think is right, they will try to push it on you. In my mind religion doesn't matter, whatever or whomever you believe in doesn't determine who you are as a person. So me not going to church shouldn't make me a bad person.
In this blog I will be talking about the story Ernest Hemingway wrote called Hills like White Elephants. This story takes place in the 1920’s in Spain. There is a couple in a train station waiting for a train. They order alcohol and sit down and talk to each other. Their conversation seems somewhat distant from one another. They start talking about an operation the man wants the women to do. The train they are waiting for would be taking them to this operation. The women seems opposed to this decision. From the context clue in the story you figure out that the couple is talking about an abortion. At the end of the story it seems like the female has made up her mind on what she wants to do.
