Where to Invade Next. Dir. Michael Moore. Narr. Michael Moore. Do Eat Dog Films, 2016. Online.
This source is the main one I will be pulling from, this is a documentary that talks about how different countries do things differently from America. The information in this documentary goes over the way Norway runs their prison system from the way America does. This is relevant to my research paper because it shows the way the prison systems in Norway is run. Dreisinger, Baz. “Norway Proves That Treating Prison Inmates As Human Beings Actually Works”. Huffpost, 03 Aug. 2016. Web. 30 Oct. 2017 This article basically goes over what the Norway prison does and how they treat their prisoners. The information in the text gives real interviews with some of the prisoners in Norway. This source is relevant to my research paper because it gives information with real interviews with prisoners telling their side of how they are treated. Wagner, Peter., and Rabury, Bernadette. “ Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie 2016”. Prisonpolicy, 14 Mar. 2016. Web. This article gives lots of facts on what people are arrested for and what happens inside of prisons in the USA. The information in this article is very fact based and has a lot of charts with useful information in them. This source is relevant to my research paper because it gives facts about the American prison system so I can compare the way Norway and America runs their prisons. 4th source is my dad who used to work in an American prison Weber, Edward. "Incarceration." Torch, Fall2015, pp. 25-28. This paper is about a man who used to work within the prison system going over what he remembers during his time working. Coyle, Andrew. "The Treatment of Prisoners: International Standards and Case Law." Legal & Criminological Psychology, vol. 13, no. 2, Sept. 2008, pp. 219-230. This article goes over the basics of the treatment and workings of the prison system and prisoners. This weeks blog will be about the documentary I watched called Where to Invade Next, my blog last week talks about the main idea and summary of the documentary, read that first by clicking the link -https://gabrielladambrosio.weebly.com/blog/summary-of-where-to-invade-next
This blog will be me talking about three topics that were covered in the film. I will be coming up with a research question and also giving an argument for it.
Welcome to this week's blog. I will be talking about and giving a brief summary of the documentary Where to Invade Next . In the documentary Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore visits countrys around the world to see how they differ from the USA and how he could “ steal “ their ideas to make America better. This documentary was trying to be more persuasive than informational. The countries he traveled to were Italy, France, Finland, Slovenia, Germany, Portugal, Norway, Tunisa, and Iceland. The first place he visited was Italy, Where they have up to 8 weeks paid vacation. The owners of companies said they give their workers these long breaks because it makes them less stressed and keeps them from getting sick. In America Most people barely get 2 weeks off of work. In Italy they also are in the top 15 most productive countries even though they have this much time off work. The next stop was France where they serve actual courses for lunch in school. They have full course meals with fresh foods that are healthy. The schools have their own chefs that prepare and make the food, and people come out and serve the food to the children. Their lunches also cost less to make then the one sin America. The next country was Finland, there they have the most highly educated kids. The kids don’t even go to school for 8 hours a day. They also have little to no homework. They principles think that letting a kid have time to be child let them grow and learn things on their own but also learn while in school. In Slovenia they have free universities, no tuition so no one who goes there will be in debt. Germany has a big middle class, the workers work 36 hours but get paid for 40. Everybody only has one job to be able to live. Companies can not contact a worker once they left work. The companies think keeping their workers out of stressful environments it will keep them healthier and want to work for them. Next in Portugal they don’t arrest people for having drugs on them anymore. This has actually decreased the use of drugs in the country. In Norway they have a very laid back prison system they treat the prisoners with respect and let them have their own responsibilities to make them feel normal and help them once they get back into the real world. Also the highest sentencing you could have is 21 years. The next stop was Tunisia where they have government funded abortion, this has helped women become equal to men and giving them an equal opportunity in life. The last country was Iceland where they had a women president and women are highly respected there.
